Hincmar of Reims


Biography


  • Born: 806 into Franconian nobility.
  • Educated at St. Denys and the court of Charlemagne.
  • 840: joined Karl the Bald making him successor of Archbishop Ebo of Reims.
  • Death: 21./23.12.882 Épernay.


Activities as canonist


  • Defense against Proprietary Church System.
  • Diocesan Legislation: Capitula Episcoporum.
  • As Metropolitan: Action against Rothad II of Soissons who was in conflict with Nicholas I probably leading the enemies of Hincmar to propagate the Pseudo-Isidore-Decretals.
