Johannes Galensis

(Walensis)


Biography

 

  • came from Wales.
  • Not to be confused with John of Wales, the Oxford Theologian (died 1285).



Activities as Canonist


 

  • taught the Compilatio Prima and Secunda and made singular Glosses on them (before 1212).
  • wrote and Apparatus on the Compilatio Tertia. (before 1216).
  • it is not sure, if this work was made by the same Johannes Galensis, Ritter distinguishes between 1.) a canonist who died in 1194 and wrote the Compliationes decretalium and 2.) an English Canonist who wrote the Compilatio secunda (1210/12) and Glosses to the Compilatio Tertia.
