Nicolaus de Tudeschis (Abbas Siculus, Panormitanus)

 

Biography

 

  • also called Abbas modernus, Abbas Siculus; by his diocese Parnomitanus.
  • entered the Benedictines.
  • Studied under Zabarella in Padua who made him doctor.
  • 1421: started teaching in Siena, Parma and Bologna.
  • 1425: Martin V. gave him the Abbey of S. Maria de Maniaco (Diocese: Messina).
  • Referendarius and auditor generalis in the Camera apostolica, royal advisor and commissioner.
  • 1427: Archbishop of Palermo.
  • Legate at the Council of Basel.
  • Cardinalate under Felix V. (Amadeus of Savoy).
  • 1453: Death (according to Oldoinus in July 1445)
