Biography


 

  • Born: Before 1130.
  • He was Franconian, but only very little is known about his life.
  • Probably teacher in Paris.
  • Refers to Bulgarus as Dominus as probably his teacher?
  • Before 1179: Bishop of Assisi.
  • After 1179: Bishop of Sorrent.
  • Death: Before 1192.


Activities as Canonist


 

  • Glossae in Decretum Gratiani.
  • 1164: Wrote the Summa Decretorum.
  • Status of his Summa: Three times bigger than the one of Magister Rolandus, distinct methodology (Distinctiones, Causae, Quaestiones) and influenced Stephen of Tournai, John of Faenza, Huguccio and other Summae (Summa Coloniensis, Parisiensis)
  • 1174-1177: De bono pacis.
  • Participation at the III. Lateran Council: Held the Opening Speech.
