Sicardus Cremonensis


Biography

 

  • Born in Cremona.
  • Studied in Bologna.
  • Stayed some time in Mainz (taught probably Canon Law there).
  • 1183: ordained as subdeacon by Pope Lucius III. and priestly ordination by Olfredus of Cremona.
  • 1185: elected as Bishop of Cremona.
  • 1203: Journey to Armenia.
  • 1204: Journey to Constantinople.
  • Wrote the Chronicon and the Liber mitralis
  • Death: 1215.



Activities as Canonist



  • 1187: Legatus Apostolicus
  • 1199: played a part in the canonization of Homobonus of Cremona
  • Probably between 1179-1182: Wrote a Summa to the Decretum Gratiani (used the Summa of Paucapalea, Rufinus, John of Faenza and Simon): Probably the first attempt to write a Canonical coursebook in accordance with the Decretum.
