Tancredus

(Bononiensis) 


Biography


 

  • Born around 1185 in Bologna.
  • Not to be confused with another Tancred, who was a Dominican Friar, even if he might have been member of the Order himself (?)
  • Studied under Johannes Galensis and Laurentius Hispanus, Roman Law under Azo.
  • Around 1214: Magister decretorum
  • Stopped teaching but resumed after the death of Innocent III.
  • 1215 or 1216: Canon in Bologna
  • 1226: Archdeacon in Bologna
  • Lead the investigation concerning the canonisation of St. Dominic.



Activities as Canonist



  • One of the most influential Canonists of the 13th century.
